OMSD update!

Thanks everyone who came and supported Grandskater Day (also known as the 1st annual Old Man Skate Day).....This was a great idea spawned from the O.G. playmaker, Christopher Pawloski. It was a beautiful day, we had a great time sessioning just a curb, a kicker ramp, and a few other obstacles, pretty much as minimal and old school as it was back in the day. Highlights included Vick Deluca's Hoho-Plants, Chico's method airs, Shawn Ryan's old school scamp, Nash's folder of photos and memorabilia, wallrides over cardboard cutouts of Brian Nimmer(who couldn't make it because he was in Colorado), and some nasty spills from one Ryan Paddick (honorable mention to Todd Collura who had a bad fall saved on his cell phone cam haha). We ended the skate session the traditional way, getting shooed off by the foul five-oh. At night we rejoined at OTC where there was a hefty crowd at the sideroom watching Hocus Pocus, Animal Chin, and other old videos, with Bad Brains, McRad, and Minor Threat bumping in the background courtesy of DJ Randy and Chris P. All the guys and gals chatted about the fun during the day and reminisced about the past, and talked about future GrandSkater Days....perhaps a yearly event? Everyone would hope so! This was perfect. Special thanks to Chris, Bob for the kicker ramp, DJ Randy, OTC, Stas and everyone who participated and showed love for the family! -Keith

OL' HEADS UNITE

Im sure you've heard chatter on what the deal is.....this aint a joke!
Its not about a salary its all about reality! But yeah SEPTEMBER 15th is the set date....Time to get your WOODSTICKS back out (pause). We're all oldheads now and for the most part still keep in touch/see each other every now and then, but when was the last time we all skated together? This is for everyone considered crew from the glory days....NEPA Valley Crew '86 to '96....its how many of us met!

Pass the bulletin on, email anyone you think should be there, or call the same fools you called back in the day.

If you have any ideas where we can skate in the day hollar at me or anyone you know who will be participating. We're looking at OTC sidebar as a party spot at night(anyone is welcome), so aside from getting your ollies back it would be cool if you came equipped with any relevant photos, stories, random items etc. Golden points for any video footage from those times, as there may be a video projector at the party.
Don't front!! Don't be a poser! HAHA seriously don't worry if you haven't stepped on a board since '93 the point is to have a blast, become reaquainted, squash any old beefs, and to reminisce the days of high school, columbia hose, fighting cruisers and jocks, ducking cops(even though most of us still do) popping zits, eating at rodano's, meeting at 288 subs and the ramada, checking out firestone, big pants, small wheels, etc. Sosend email, spread the word, this is a good time to call up your old squad! See you there. Updates to follow! Hit me or Chris Pawloski up if you have questions! -Keith

Haterade.

Is It in you? (Pause) i think i officially changed platforms and all i've been buying is Powerade and Vitamin Water. I came to this realization in D.C., hungover and dry with thirst as i said "Wow, this is seriously the best thing i've ever drank in my life." I was drinking an ice cold Formula 50.

Feeling Lately

Old TSOL video. The first half is a great reminder of what the Swoyersville troph was like back in the day....we rode those same boards too. The second half is just a real great song. Probably their best song after the original singer left the band.

A Two Sentence Story.

Man i found a huge butterfly that was injured in the park it could not fly but was walking around so i picked it up and brought it home and put it in my terrarium. i looked online to see how to care for them, it said to use water and sugar and a paper towel so i did just that and after a few days the butterfly was able to fly again and i was going to bring it back to the park but unfortunately it flew into the mouth of one of my frogs who found it extrememly delicious *Posted by Jaguarman

The Herzog Report

Its been a minute and some change since I hit up the movie theaters. Im sure other contributors to this lovely arts blog have seen many a movie, but oh how they sleep this glorious interweb tool of informational blabber. Long ago were the days where I'd cut out of my office job, turn my beeper on(yes, a pager), and sneak on down to the Ritz to catch a flick after reading reviews of it in the PW or CP or hearing about it by word of mouth. Cable seemed like a sin throughout my 20's, it was all about being out 24-7, reading, and experiencing shit, physically, first hand. The more time spent away from your crib the better, the more effort required to enjoy things the cooler, fuckit being derel but conscious was the epitomy of young adulthood. But nowadays my introduction to the 30s thus far has been synonymous with being a tad more mellowed out and more of a home-body. Granted you make up for it by making your weekdays more responsible and your weekends more epic. You also suffice by slowly displacing neandrathal-like activities(i.e. ruthless vandalism) with more civilized ones(i.e. careful vandalism). Although theory would suggest different yolks for different folks: maybe I was supposed to realize these things as a teen going into my 20s. Wait--that is ridiculous! I wouldn't trade the beast-mode days for anything. But anyways fuck all that noise-I'm getting off track, this is supposed to be a sort of movie review, and I was meaning to say that I just don't go out as much anymore. Going out to the movies has fallen under that category. It wasn't supposed to, but with the advent of such luxuries like HBO and Direct TV and Netflix, it was only a matter of time. I believe these subtle luxuries to be frowned-upon in your quarter-life but warmly accepted in your mid-life; viewed upon as a reward for the rough trek up the lower parts of Jacob's ladder throughout your younger years. But even with these self-imported amenities, I still want to visit the theaters more. Last week, when me and my girl watched Rescue Dawn, I came to this realization.
Its been more than 2 months since our friend and Hi-5 partner J.Diaz ran into the great Herzog. Many magical things have happened since then, such as our good nights at ERA, or not being arrested, or Steven Parker not bullying people at the Khyber.....perhaps we can owe it all to Jay's encounter with our hero, who may have magically blessed us with his stiff genius(no homo)... So if you haven't seen the latest reel from the handiwork of Werner I strongly suggest you do so. We can then contemplate over whether or not this is his finest work(I would say it isn't, but definately up there) or we can contemplate if I should or shouldn't be whyling out more on weekdays. *posted by Jugwiremon
